Dr. Biden travelled to the region in early August to help raise awareness about the need for more global assistance to mitigate the impact of the famine in Somalia and the drought affecting Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya.

The U.S. is the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to the region and to date this fiscal year has contributed $565 million to help those in need. These resources support humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and other drought affected populations.
