As part of its Democracy and Good Governance activity, USAID recently supported a three-day seminar in Djibouti to strengthen Parliament’s oversight role. The Speaker of the Djiboutian Assembly, Idriss Arnaoud and the U.S. Ambassador, James Swan, presented remarks at the opening of the workshop.
Topics included organizational audit and strategic planning, with a focus on improving Minister of Parliament skills to better monitor and control the budget. A training was directed at members of the Finance, Economy and General Plan Committee, responsible for supervising and monitoring the performance of the State, and controlling parastatal financial accounts. The session focused on those instruments available to Parliamentarians that can help support more effective budgetary and administrative controls.
