USAID Sponsored Performance Audit Training Held in Djibouti

Inspectors on the last day of the USAID sponsored performance audit training with U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti, James C. Swan, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Rashid Hassan, General Inspector, Hassan Issa and the USAID/Djibouti Resident Representative, Stephanie Funk.
The U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti, James C. Swan, attended the handover of certificates of participation for Inspectors from the General State Inspection (IGE) office at the Chamber of Commerce of Djibouti after a ten day course sponsored by USAID. The handover ceremony was held in the presence of the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Rashid Hassan, General Inspector Hassan Issa, and the USAID/Djibouti Resident Representative, Stephanie Funk.
Ten inspectors from the IGE received training provided by Anne-Marie Auger, a Canadian expert in organizational audit and strategic planning. The training began on January 11 and covered various types of audits, including the distinction between an external and internal audit, management controls, the presentation of the performance audit process and strategic planning. These courses incorporated issues related to ethics in a context of good governance and modernization of public institutions.
U.S. Ambassador Swan also stated that in the context of the fight against corruption, "This struggle is particularly important when it comes to building public confidence in the institutions." The Ambassador also underscored the collaboration with the Government of Djibouti to support transparency and good governance, and congratulated the inspectors as key actors in good governance and the improvement of public sector performance.
